The Lost Child

Writer: Chad CoburnChad Coburn

My eyes fall heavy.

I lay down to rest

And awaken in a world

of dreams.

My memories fly around me;

I reach out to touch them

And fall into the past.

I see myself,

A lost child searching for home.

I shiver as I remember the fear I was in.

I go to grab my past self's hand,

Leading myself back home,

But I'm invisible.

All I can do is listen to my cries.

I watch as my younger self's eyes fall heavy and lay under the bench,

And awaken to the present moment.

A single tear falls from my cheek,

As I'm still the lost child.
